2006 Futurity Added Money Increased by over $35,000!
The Southwest Reining Horse Association Futurity, billed "Where the finest go First!" has long been a preview of the top horses that will be seen a month later at the National Reining Horse Association Futurity in Oklahoma City. It's been a great event, but with a boost from the recently held SWRHA On-Line Stallion Auction, the 2006 Futurity will rise to a new level.
Jack Covington, SWRHA Board member, explains, "The new SWRHA On-Line Stallion Auction brought in $35,580 additional added money for the Futurity. That means the added money in the Open Division went from $25,000 to $45,000! In the Intermediate Open, it was $10,000 and is now $20,000. The Limited Open was increased by nearly 25%."
The Non Pro division added money was raised from $10,000 to $15,000, as well.
The online auction also generated funds for awards for owners of participating stallions and $6,671 was earmarked for sire awards to be given in 2006. The operating costs for the auction were kept to a modest 5%. Covington added his thanks and Kudos to Pro Management, Inc. of Byars, Oklahoma for its effective and innovative approach to creating and managing the on-line auction.
Overall, the first-ever SWRHA On-Line Stallion Auction was a huge success, and Covington feels that was due, in large part, to the fact that the funds generated directly increased the added money of the Futurity. Covington continued, "Our thanks go to the generous Stallion owners who believed in the importance of growing the added money at our futurity. We had a great first year and expect this to become even bigger in 2007. This year there were some bargains – breeding-wise, but as more and more people hear about this program, we believe we'll see even more bidders. It's a fun auction, too, with the real-time bidding on-line. People were pleased that they could bid from home on their computers."
