SWRHA Futurity Closes With Rookie & Youth Classes
The 2005 Southwest Reining Horse Association Futurity came to a close October 30 after awarding its final three champions.
The Rookie and Youth horse show classes highlighted the last day of competition in Ardmore, Oklahoma.
Debbie Hubbert of Gainesville, Texas, earned the Rookie Championship riding Shes Cowismatic, a 5-year-old sorrel mare by Lenas Wright On and out of Napa Ann. Debbie and her mare marked a 72 for the title.
"This is my last class as a rookie so it was fun to come here because it's close to home and now we feel like we're ready for the AQHA World Show in Oklahoma City," Debbie said after her run.
Shes Cowismatic was the 2003 National Reined Cow Horse Association Non Pro Snaffle Bit Futurity Reserve Champion and finished third at the National Reining Horse Association Non Pro Futurity the same year. Debbie bought the mare last year and will show her in both the Amateur Reining and Working Cow Horse at the American Quarter Horse Association World Show in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, while her trainer, Garth Brown, shows her in both classes in the Junior Open division.
The Youth 13 and Under and 14-18 classes ran concurrently in the afternoon and had an extra incentive to make the best run possible. The SWRHA awarded a saddle to the high scoring youth in both divisions combined. Twenty-three horses gave it their best shot with three tying for the saddle with 70.5 scores. Jordan Donnelly of Aubrey, Texas, Courtney Kile of Garrison, Texas, and Lauren Porter of Weatherford, Texas, accepted a runoff to determine which young lady would receive the saddle.
Jordan and Hollywood All Star, by Hollywood Dun It and out of Judy Elderberry, had already topped the Youth 13 and Under division with their first run and marked a 71 to win the runoff and the saddle.
"My first run was pretty good. My second run, I tried to run a little faster to challenge him and he stepped up to it," Jordan said of her horse. "I got everything done better than I did the run before."
Courtney and Ciscos Kachina Lena, by Cisco Lena and out of Miss Kachina Doll, earned a 70.5 and the Youth 14-18 Championship in the runoff over Lauren and Dun It Most Likey, by Hollywood Dun It and out of Most Likely Lady.
"My first run was okay. There were some bad things that were my fault," Courtney admitted. "My second run, I did a little better but she was really worn out. This is my first runoff and I didn't really know how she would do."
